Dental Crowns
The Purpose of Dental Crowns
Dental crowns can be described as small caps for discoloured, broken, or damaged teeth. These are normally used for protecting your damaged teeth, or for cosmetic enhancement, as required. If you need a dental crown, the process will normally involve at least 2 appointments.
During the first appointment, your dentist will examine your teeth thoroughly, to confirm if your teeth are suitable for an effective dental crown to be placed. If it is found suitable, your tooth/teeth will be prepared for the crown by filing it down appropriately. An impression will then be taken of the tooth/teeth and sent to a dental lab for the creation of the crown. If necessary, a temporary crown might be fitted until your second appointment.
Then, during your second appointment, the dentist will
- Remove the temporary crown if there was one placed
- Position and fix the new crown onto your tooth with an adhesive
